California orders 40 million to stay home to halt virus

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's 40 million residents should stay home indefinitely and venture out only for essential jobs, errands and some exercise, Gov. Gavin Newsom said, warning that the coronavirus pandemic threatens to overwhelm the state's medical system.
