EDITORS:

The Democratic presidential primary in Maine is too early to call.

With roughly 75% of precincts reporting as of 1 a.m. EST, Joe Biden has a lead over Bernie Sanders of about 1,300 votes out of more than 180,000 counted. That is a margin of less than 1 percentage point.

AP will continue to monitor the race and advise on developments, but we do not anticipate calling the race until significantly more of the vote in Maine is reported and tabulated.
