Casey, Cavanaugh win primaries for Alabama PSC president

Laura Casey claimed the Democratic nomination for president of the Alabama Public Service Commission, defeating party activist Robert L. Mardis III on Tuesday. The three-member panel regulates utilities like Alabama Power Co., phone companies and pipelines. Members are elected statewide. Casey was one of three audience members removed from a 2019 PSC meeting for live-streaming a hearing regarding fees charged on solar panels, and she sued the agency. She will face Republican incumbent Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh in November.
