Summer heat brings people out to Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE — Summer arrived and delivered a bout of heat. The forecast for today is a peak temperature close to 99 degrees.
But the week’s heat won’t last. Jennifer Simmons, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Saturday’s temperatures should top out at about 85 degrees.
“By Sunday, we’ll be back in the 70s,” Simmons said.
Highs have been in the 90s most of this week.
On most summer evenings, there are a lot of boats and other watercraft on Moses Lake, and many zoomed by Blue Heron Park on Wednesday evening. The park’s boat launch was busy.
Tyler Marchand and his girlfriend Kayla Weisser brought a picnic to the park to commemorate an anniversary.
“We’ve been together nine years today,” Marchand said.
The park’s swimming beach was full of children splashing in the water. Edgar Garcia and Felipe Haro brought a football to throw back and forth as they stood waist-deep in the lake.
All the activity did not keep a family of ducks from taking an early evening swim.
Temperatures will not be quite so midsummer-ish next week — there’s even a little rain forecast for Sunday night. Forecast highs for next week are in the mid-80s.
