Moses Lake Roundup Rodeo canceled

| June 9, 2020 11:59 PM

MOSES LAKE — The 2020 Roundup Rodeo has been canceled, the Moses Lake Roundup Committee announced Tuesday.

The rodeo was scheduled to be held at Grant County Fairgrounds Aug. 20-22, during the Grant County Fair. The committee cited the COVID-19 pandemic as reason for the cancellation.

“The Rodeo Committee has looked at this situation from all angles and feel this decision is in the best interest of our community, sponsors, contractors, contestants, volunteers, and spectators to stay safe and healthy,” the committee stated in a press release. “We know, the decision to cancel our event, as well as the decisions of the other committees who have canceled their events, creates a hardship on those in the rodeo world who depend on our rodeos for part of their livelihood.”

The Moses Lake Roundup Rodeo now joins a host of rodeos nationwide — including Coulee City’s Last Stand Rodeo — that have been canceled or postponed due to the pandemic.

The committee said there was still a possibility of rescheduling the Northwest Ag Demo Derby and that they look forward to the Roundup Rodeo returning in 2021.
