Teri Jean (Scott) Heckly

Teri was born in San Diego to Reid and Billie Jean Scott. She moved to Moses Lake at a young age with her parents. During her growing years, Teri was active in 4H and loved horses. She often rode her horse in the Moses Lake Sand Dunes and along the railroad tracks by her house.

Summer often found her at the ranch of Art and Grace Lewis, her grandparents, in Coulee City, Washington.

Teri loved her horse Trigger and spent many hours riding at her grandparents ranch where she became an accomplished rider. She was selected as the 1964 Columbia Basin Rodeo Queen, traveling to many rodeos during her reign.

Teri graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1966 and attended Yakima Valley College. She moved to Spokane for her work as a legal secretary. While in Spokane she met her future husband, Tom Heckly.

Teri moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1970. In 1971 she and Tom were married. They made their first home in the Bay area where they lived for 10 years, and were blessed with three sons.

The family moved back to Washington in 1981 and settled in their new home on five acres in Kingston, Washington. Teri was involved in her sons’ basketball, baseball, soccer and Special Olympics swimming. She opened and operated a private day care and was an educational assistant in the North Kitsap School District.

In 2013. Teri, Tom and Richard moved back to Moses Lake. Teri was an avid gardener, growing and canning many of her own fruits and vegetables. Teri enjoying bowling and participated in programs for Special Olympics.

Teri is survived by her husband Tom and son Richard at the family home in Moses Lake; son Scott and wife Tana Heckly and their sons Jarrett and Tyce of Ellensburg and son Michael and wife Ashley Heckly and son Cole of Fishers, Indiana. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers Bruce Scott and Mark Scott.

There will be a drop-in celebration of Teri’s life from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the home of Reed and Amy Raymond, 500 Bluff West Drive, in Moses Lake.

A small group will travel to Republic, Washington, on Monday, June 15 for Teri’s final interment. Teri loved the setting at the Republic Cemetery where her in-laws are at rest.

The family asks that any memorials be made to the Cancer Foundation to find a cure for this dreaded illness.
