December 7, 1923 – May 29, 2020

LaVeda Faun Jensen Sherwood, 96 years old and a longtime resident of Moses Lake, passed away May 29, 2020, at Avamere Assisted Living. We who are left behind will miss her loving and feisty ways. But what beautiful heavenly reunions must be taking place.

LaVeda was born Dec. 7, 1923 in Aetna, Alberta, Canada. She was the youngest of 13 children. As a child they rode in a horse-drawn wagon to church in the winter. The wagon had skis on it.

She married Leonard Keith Sherwood in 1943. They used to go to the movie theater on dates, where he worked as a projectionist. Throughout her life she served others. You could always find her at church being a beacon of light to those around her. She was always active and a service to others.

Keith and LaVeda had six children. As her children grew she stayed at home creating a loving and caring environment for them. She has been a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all her family and many who were not of blood relation as well.

LaVeda said that whatever she could dream up, Keith could make reality. This was evident as they worked together building a lovely home with beautiful vegetable gardens, flowers and trees everywhere. Their patio was the site of so many family and friends gatherings. She involved the whole family in gardening, canning and preserving food. She sang and played the piano and wrote poetry, songs and plays. She was a member of the church choirs and groups for over 70 years and was choir director for many of those years. She loved all crafts and was a very talented cake decorator and interior designer as well. She was thrifty, and worked outside the home when necessary, but she also loved beautiful things. So she sewed and made many of the family clothes. She made more quilts than you could count and helped anyone who wanted to learn homemaking skills like crocheting or making pioneer skirts and bonnets. She helped plan and decorate for church activities and dances where she still loved to dance with Keith. They had a camper and took many trips with their camping group in later years. They also served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including 18 months on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona.

Keith and three of her children passed on before her; Randy Gene, Jeffry Rand and Debbie Rae. She leaves her son Phil (Lori) and daughters Rita (Allen) and Julie (Jim), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many forever friends.

The family is grateful to the dedicated caretakers who became friends at the assisted living facility. Thank you also to those with hospice during the final days.

A private family interment was held at Guarding Angels Cemetery. Please leave your thoughts and memories for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are under the care of Kayser’s Chapel of Memories.
