Spike in new COVID-19 cases in Grant, Adams counties

MOSES LAKE/OTHELLO — There were a lot of new cases of COVID-19 reported in Grant and Adams counties this past week. From Friday, May 22, to Monday, June 1, 38 new cases were reported in Grant County, bringing the new number of confirmed cases to 236. The only cities not to see new cases were Royal City, Soap Lake and the Grand Coulee/Electric City area.

Mattawa went from 49 to 55 cases; Quincy from 73 to 81 cases and Moses Lake from 37 to 58 cases. Warden had two new cases, bringing the city to six total confirmed cases. Ephrata had one new case, for a total of 17 cases.

As of Monday, June 1, 2,838 tests had come back negative for COVID-19. One hundred seventy-five cases are pending. Currently, only two people are hospitalized. No new deaths have been reported. So far, 106 individuals with confirmed cases have recovered.

Of those with confirmed cases, 107 are male and 129 are female. Twenty-four are ages infant to 18 years old. In the 19- to 40-year-old age range, 103 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Seventy-five people in the 41- to 60-year-old age range have had the virus. In the 61- to 80-year-old age range, there are 31 confirmed cases. Two new people have tested positive in the 80-year-old and over category, bringing the total to three.

In Adams County, 16 new cases have been reported from Friday, May 22, to Monday, June 1. The number of confirmed cases is 70. Currently, no one is hospitalized or has died.

The total number of tests sent out is 566. Of those, 484 have come back negative. Sixteen tests are pending. Fifty-three people have recovered.

The major of the new cases were in Othello. Between Friday, May 22, and Monday, June 1, the number of confirmed cases went from 49 to 63. Ritzville had two new cases, bringing their total number of cases up to four. Lind stayed steady with three cases.
