CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dollar Tree, one of the largest low-cost retailers in the nation, formally announced Monday that the company will open a new store in Quincy on July 23.

The 10,000-square-foot store will be at 814 13th Ave. SW, in the building formerly occupied by Shopko, according to a statement from Dollar Tree.

“Dollar Tree stores are open seven days a week and offer great value and a broad assortment of merchandise all priced at $1 or less,” said Dollar Tree spokesperson Kayleigh Painter. “The new location will also include Dollar Tree’s recently introduced Snack Zone, an expanded offering of beverages, candy and snacks.”

According to Quincy City Administrator Pat Haley, Dollar Tree will rent a portion of the former Shopko space and has been building a partition inside the structure.

“They’ve been working on it pretty steadily,” Haley said. “I think they will do well here.”

Painter said Dollar Tree typically employs 12 to 20 people at a store the size of the one planned for Quincy. Dollar Tree also has stores in Moses Lake, Othello and Ephrata.

“Dollar Tree continues to grow, and we are proud to be part of the Quincy community,” she added.

Dollar Tree operates 15,370 stores the United States and Canada under the Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree Canada and Family Dollar brands. For 2019, it reported net income of $827 million on sales of $23.6 billion, according to the company’s 2019 earnings statement.
