Grant County Fairgrounds to sponsor drive-in movie nights

MOSES LAKE — Grant County Fairgrounds plans to revive a custom of the mid-20th century. “Cars Under the Stars” drive-in movies begin Sept. 3

Fairgrounds director Jim McKiernan said attendance will be limited to 100 cars. The screen will be set up in a field at the south end of the fairgrounds, McKiernan said, and sound will be broadcast over FM radio.

Screenings will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday each weekend in September.

The gate will open at 6:30 p.m., with the movie starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 per car and will be available for advance purchase on the fairgrounds website, McKiernan said. Concessions will be available.

The lineup includes “Footloose” on Sept. 3, “Grease” on Sept. 4 and “Dirty Dancing” on Sept. 5. Movies for the second week are “Sixteen Candles” on Sept. 10, and “The Breakfast Club” on Sept. 12.

The third week’s lineup includes “Bridesmaids” on Sept. 17, “Tommy Boy” on Sept. 18 and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” Sept. 19. The fourth week will feature “A League of Their Own” on Sept. 24, “Rocky” Sept. 25 and “Space Jam” on Sept. 26.

Sponsors include Weinstein Beverage Co., Windermere K-2 Realty, LocalTel and McCain.
