MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Republican Party has a new, temporary campaign headquarters for the next few months, at 108 E. Third Ave., right in downtown Moses Lake.

It’s full of campaign yard signs, candidate literature, souvenirs for President Donald J. Trump’s re-election campaign, and party volunteers happy to talk about the general election in November.

“We’ve rented it for four months prior to the election,” said Grant County Republican Party Chair Barbara Morgan. “So that we have a presence and we’re able to talk to people about the election.”

With the statewide primary looming next week, Morgan said the party isn’t endorsing anyone, but it is free to talk about the party and its principles, and describe each of the candidates and their campaign positions in detail.

“That’s what we’re doing,” she said.

In addition, according to Grant GOP Treasurer RaeAnne Journey, the new temporary GOP campaign office is registering voters, is giving away free copies of the U.S. Constitution, has a library of “political and history” movies to watch, and is soliciting signatures right now for Initiative 1114, which would place significant limits on the power of the governor of Washington to proclaim states of emergency.

Journey said the GOP is also planning to offer civics and citizenship classes, as well as a course on the U.S. Constitution and training and preparation for precinct workers.

The office opened on Friday, and Journey said the office had been busy with politically active people and curious people alike coming in to talk and see what’s going on.

“During the week when we were setting up, we had a lot of people walking in, and hopefully we will be really busy,” Journey said. “We have invited a lot of our candidates out here as well as our representatives, so as the days continue we expect to get more people walking in and just enjoying and meeting a lot of our representatives to discuss our upcoming election.”

“It’s important to educate yourself,” she added.

The new office is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
