Giant ‘thank yous’ to public servants

MOSES LAKE — There probably isn’t an envelope around that would fit the “thank you” card Hannah Fountain created for the area’s public servants and first responders.

Or, if there is, it’s because Fountain herself made it.

“It’s been up for about two weeks,” said Fountain, an artist whose husband, Dennis, is pastor of Moses Lake Baptist Church and chaplain to Grant County Sheriff’s Office. “I just wanted to let our public servants know they are appreciated.”

The card is intended for health care workers, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, school teachers and elected officials. It is nearly full of signatures, “thank yous” of all kinds and even one note saying “this isn’t my town but I love it!”

Once it’s full, Fountain said she plans to take the giant card on a tour of each place those thanked specifically in the card work to stay for a few days “as a way of saying thank you.”

Fountain said it took about six hours to create the card. It has been sitting outside the Red Door Cafe on the corner of Third Avenue and Ash Street for the last two weeks as people have signed it.

“I’m super excited about that,” she said. “I hope people are encouraged by it.”
