Mercedes-Benz prep baseball club finish weekend unbeaten
BEND, Ore. — Mercedes-Benz college prep baseball team finished the holiday weekend undefeated in its four contests against Boss Baseball in Bend, Oregon.
A 12-3 win opened the weekend up for the summer prep club, out-hitting their opponents at the plate 13-5. A four-run first inning helped Mercedes-Benz jump out to an early lead in what turned into a comfortable win to start the weekend.
Jaxon Rocha finished 1-3 from the plate in the win. Mason Guerra led the team, finishing 4-4 with seven RBIs and a pair of home runs.
In its second game on Saturday, Mercedes-Benz managed a late three-run surge to pull ahead in what was a closely contested game throughout. Both teams traded runs early, and again in the fifth, to leave the game tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh inning.
Three runs in the top of the inning helped Mercedes-Benz pull ahead before the defense was able to stifle a comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Ryan Arredondo came in to close out the seventh inning, finishing off the final two batters in the win.
A single run in the sixth inning from Mercedes-Benz was the only mark on the scoreboard in the first game on Sunday, but it was enough to secure the 1-0 win.
Both starting pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts in a tough outing for both sides at the plate. Rocha notched one of the team’s three hits in the win, finishing 1-3 from the plate in the win.
Closing out the weekend, Mercedes-Benz secured four runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull ahead in a 5-1 win Sunday afternoon.
Arredondo drew the start on the mound in the final game of weekend, tossing a little over five innings. Arredondo struck out seven of 19 batters faced, surrendering one run on two hits.
Heading out of the first weekend in July, Mercedes-Benz summer squad now sits at 9-5-1 for the summer.
