NATIONAL SUMMARY

A system may evolve into a tropical depression or storm as

it sweeps along the North Carolina coast tomorrow and then

northeastward along the upper mid-Atlantic coast on Friday.

Regardless of tropical development, downpours will continue

to drench the Southeast states, with localized flooding

possible. Spotty thunderstorms may ignite amid the steamy

air over the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and Northeast. A few

storms across the Midwest and central Plains could turn

severe, especially late in the day and into the overnight.

Triple-digit heat will continue to sizzle the Desert

Southwest to the southern Plains, with dry, sunny weather

persisting. A weak storm system is forecast to move into the

Pacific Northwest, bringing spotty showers to western

Washington. The balance of the Northwest should be dry.
