Fire destroys abandoned house near Soap Lake

SOAP LAKE — Fire destroyed an abandoned house and barn southeast of Soap Lake on Friday.

Grant County Fire District No. 7 Chief Kirk Sheppard said the fire was reported about 2 p.m. at an abandoned property between Road B Northeast and Road B.5 Northeast. The fire destroyed one of two residences on the property, a barn and 10 vehicles, Sheppard said.

The cause of the fire was undetermined. Unauthorized people had been living on the property, and they were seen leaving not long before the fire was reported, Sheppard said.

Fire crews were on the scene about four hours.
