Coulee City man hit by motorcycle
GRANT COUNTY — A Coulee City bicyclist was struck by a motorcycle on state Route 17 near mile post 87 after turning into traffic and was pronounced dead at Central Washington Hospital, according to Washington State Patrol.
Stanley Porterfield, 75, of Coulee City, was on a bicycle traveling on the southbound shoulder of SR-17 when he suddenly tried to cross to Moore Road, moving in front of oncoming traffic, according to law enforcement officials. Andrew Reeves, 55, of Phoenix, Arizona, was also traveling southbound on SR-17 on a Honda VTX1800C motorcycle and struck Porterfield.
Reeves, who was wearing a helmet and was not impaired, was injured and transported to Samaritan Hospital, according to WSP, which could not confirm his condition. Porterfield was flown to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead, WSP stated. Porterfield’s toxicology report, which is standard in highway fatalities, may take around a week, WSP Public Information Officer Trooper John Bryant said Sunday.
