MOSES LAKE — Construction will begin Monday on a project to resurface North Stratford Road from the West Broadway intersection to its junction with state Route 17. Crews also will add another left turn lane and another through lane at the intersection of Stratford and Valley Road.
Construction is expected to continue through late November. City engineer Richard Law said Thursday that traffic will be restricted in the construction zones, but the road won’t be closed.
“We’ll keep at least one lane of traffic open in both directions, similar to what we did last year,” Law said.
The city replaced water mains along the same section of Stratford in 2019, in preparation for resurfacing the road in 2020.
The total project cost is about $1.7 million. C&R Tractor & Landscaping, of Kelso, is the contractor.
The city’s project also includes improvements to the curbs and stormwater system. Curbs and sidewalks on the east side of the street will be moved to make room for two additional lanes of traffic.
The Stratford-Valley intersection will get a second left-turn-only lane and a second northbound through lane, Law said. The through lanes will go all the way to the end of the project, about 80 feet past the intersection of Stratford and Mart Road.
The traffic signals also will get an upgrade, with electronics improvements and new poles. Because the road is being widened, a new traffic light will be installed at the Stratford-Valley intersection.
Crosswalks will be reconfigured to make crossing easier, Law said.
