Stocks open higher on Wall Street, adding to week's gains

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street, adding to a big gain from the day before when the market closed out its best quarter in more than 20 years. The S&P 500 rose 0.5% in early trading Wednesday. FedEx soared the most in the index after reporting stronger-than-expected revenue thanks to a boom in online shopping during the coronavirus pandemic. Investors got some encouraging news on the jobs market as payroll processor ADP reported that U.S. companies added nearly 2.4 million jobs in June. Bond yields and crude oil prices rose. Overseas markets were mixed.
