February 1, 1945 – June 23, 2020

Nikkie Kay Howard, 75, finished her battle with cancer in her home on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

Nikkie was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bellingham, Washington, on Feb. 1, 1945, to Nicholas and Bonita (Bonnie) Jansen. She was the oldest of six children. She attended Meridian High School and continued a career as a caregiver and LPN for visiting nurses and various nursing homes most of her life. She met and married Donald Howard and they shared 40 years together. In their later years they opened a business called Arrowstar Concessions where they traveled to various towns throughout the summer selling food out of their concession trailer where she met many more people and grew many more friendships.

Nikkie was known for being a strong, kind and caring person with a sprinkle of sass. Her life was exemplified by a clip she kept: “Kindness is the ability to love people more than they deserve.”

Nikkie is survived by her daughter Brenda Kay Roosma and husband Drew of Othello; son Cameron (Buck) Howard; two stepsons Duane and Loren Howard; two brothers Rick Jansen and wife Marcy and Ron Jansen; one sister Rochelle Murray; one brother-in-law Joe Bruschetto; three sisters-in-law Teresa Jansen, Donna Hinckley and Fran Stoecker; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many others who also call her their mom and grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, one brother and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at her home, 4472 Jackie Drive NE, Moses Lake, Washington, on Friday, July 10, 2020, at 11 a.m. with refreshments following the service. Cards and flowers may be sent to the home address above.
