VIRUS-OUTBREAK-SHRINKING WORKFORCE — Chart. An investigation by The Associated Press and Kaiser Health News has found that per person spending at state and local public health departments has fallen over the past decade and jobs have been slashed, leaving the nation unprepared to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The following digital embed is a chart showing a decreasing trend in the annual number of full-time equivalent employees at local and state health departments. This chart is current as of June 26, 2020 and will not update. Sources: Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, National Association of County and City Health Officials.
