Royal City Council reviews finances

ROYAL CITY — The Royal City Council recently reviewed the city’s finances for the fourth quarter of 2019.

“We did not go over our appropriated budgeted expenditures,” said Shilo Christensen, finance director for the city, at the Jan. 21 meeting.

Also, the city stayed within its budgeted amounts for all of 2019. There were only two funds that had more expenses than revenue: the current reserves fund and the water fund. A new police vehicle was purchased out of the current reserves fund. The purchase had been planned for several years. The water fund paid off a loan that had been in place for some time.

“That will give the water fund some breathing room,” Christensen said. “It feels good.”

In 2019, the water fund brought in slightly less than it expended. Royal City Mayor Kent Andersen has been vigilant in attempting to keep the price for water, sewer and garbage down. Christensen said that they don’t want to charge too much.

In other business, the public meeting for the CAD Homes plat was discussed. CAD Homes will be holding a public hearing on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at City Hall, when the public may make statements in favor and against CAD Homes subdividing 8.79 acres into 32 lots. This is the only time that the public will be able to comment on the proposed plat. A copy of the plans are available at City Hall.
