Big Bend women complete sweep of CBC

PASCO — Big Bend women’s basketball opened up a 12-point lead after the first quarter and beat Columbia Basin 73-56.

The win was the Vikings’ second in a row after dropping four straight,

Recently back from injury, Kaitlyn Callahan erupted for 30 points on 10 of 12 shooting. Callahan added five rebounds and two assists to her gaudy point total.

Anna Yarbro nearly posted her third 20-rebound game of the season after collecting 18 against the Hawks. Yarbro also scored 20 points and dished five assists.

Maelyn Mace also reached double figures with 13 points.

Big Bend improved to 3-6 in the NWAC East and is tied for sixth place with Spokane and Columbia Basin.

Men’s basketball

Columbia Basin 78, Big Bend 62

PASCO — Jonathan Thomas scored 17 points off the bench but Big Bend fell to Columbia Basin 78-62.

The Runnin’ Vikes trailed by six at halftime and were outscored by 10 more in the second half, 47-37.

Payton Nielsen posted a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Wahluke grad Sergio Pineda scored six points for the Hawks.
