The Nation's Weather for Friday, January 17, 2020
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
As chilly air hovers in the Southeast, cold conditions are
in store for the Northeast today. High pressure is forecast
to build from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic coast. A large
storm will gather moisture over the Central states. Rain and
thunderstorms will affect the southern Plains to part of the
lower Mississippi Valley, while snow breaks out over the
central and northern Plains. A swath of ice is expected in
between. Enough ice may build up to cause power outages in
some locations. Areas of snow will riddle the central and
northern Rockies. In the wake of rain and snow from last
night, dry weather and sunshine will return to much of
California and the Southwest. Spotty coastal rain showers
and mountain snow showers will linger over the Northwest.
