STATE OF STATE-INDIANA

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb pointed to his annual State of the State speech as when he would suggest a potential boost in school funding even as he and fellow Republicans have stayed united on putting off major action until next year. Holcomb is set to speak Tuesday night before a joint session of the Indiana House and Senate nearly two months after several thousand teachers joined a boisterous Statehouse rally calling for better pay and more respect from the Republican-dominated state government. The governor and other top state officials haven’t given any details of what he might propose since Holcomb told reporters as this year’s legislative session began last week to “stay tuned” for his speech. DES MOINES — Presidential candidates have swarmed Iowa’s rolling landscape for more than a year, making their pitch to potential supporters on campuses, county fairgrounds and in high school gymnasiums. But three weeks before the caucuses, a cluster of candidates, including Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, along with former Vice President Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, enter the final stretch with a plausible chance of winning Iowa's caucuses. JEFFERSONVILLE-LGBTQ PROTECTIONS

JEFFERSONVILLE — Advocates for LGBTQ people are renewing their efforts to convince officials in a southern Indiana city to pass anti-discrimination protections, four years after an initial push failed to win their support. Southern Indiana Pride founder Evan Stoner said he hopes to gather Jeffersonville citizens and political, business and faith leaders for a discussion at a Jan. 22 town hall at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library. — MISSING TIRE-ARREST: A man who drove his pickup truck for several miles along Interstate 70 without one of its front tires was arrested after another motorist called 911 to report a shower of sparks coming from the truck’s front.

— INTERSTATE 69-FINAL LEG: State highway officials expect to close a section of the main route between Indianapolis and Bloomington for 10 months in 2021 during work on the next stage of the Interstate 69 extension project.

— EVA KOR EDUCATION DAY: Gov. Eric Holcomb has declared Jan. 27 “Eva Education Day” in honor of the late Eva Kor, the Holocaust survivor who dedicated much of her life to educating the world about the experiments of Nazi doctor Josef Mengele.
