MATTAWA — If everything goes according to plan, Wahluke School District students in the primary grades will return for some in-person instruction beginning Jan. 5.

Andy Harlow, the district superintendent, said the schedule is tentative and depends on the status of the COVID-19 outbreak.

In the plan, kindergarten through second-grade students will be the first to return to campus. Third through eighth grades will return Jan. 12. Hybrid instruction will start at Wahluke High School on Feb. 11, at the start of the second semester.

If on-campus instruction does resume, students will be at school Tuesday through Friday. All classes will be online each Monday.

Students will be divided into morning and afternoon classes, with morning classes from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and afternoon classes from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. Kids will have online instruction or will have homework when they’re not in class.

When on-campus instruction resumes, parents will have the option to continue all-online instruction, either through the end of the first semester for non-high school students, or for the rest of the school year.
