The Nation's Weather for Thursday, December 24, 2020

_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

A powerful storm will drench the mid-Atlantic and Southeast

with heavy rain tomorrow. Flooding will be a concern,

especially across the Northeast where snow will be rapidly

melting in many inland areas. Strong southerly winds will

develop into the night from North Carolina through New

England, bringing the threat for downed trees and power

outages. On the back side of the storm, snow and a rapid

freeze-up will create slippery travel from western New York

and Pennsylvania through eastern Ohio. Frigid air will slide

into the Midwest as cold high pressure drops down from

Canada. This air mass will produce some of the coldest air

of the season so far. The remainder of the country will be

dry, with Santa Ana winds persisting across Southern

California.
