Coronavirus increases in Grant, Adams counties in past month

The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Grant County rose by 1,800 in the past month, according to the Grant County Health District.

From Monday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Dec. 21, the reported cases jumped from 4,629 to 6,428.

In the past month, the number of reported cases in Royal City rose from 375 to 435, from Monday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Dec. 21.

Warden jumped from 375 to 435. Mattawa increased by 126 cases to 701 cases.

The number of cases in Quincy went from 1,036 to 1,352. Ephrata saw a jump of 156 cases to 546 cases.

Moses Lake reported 2,709 cases, up from 1,757 cases on Monday, Nov. 23. The number of reported cases in Soap Lake jumped from 106 to 145. The rural part of Othello, in Grant County, increased from 84 to 111.

The areas of Grand Coulee, Coulee City and Wilson Creek saw the smallest increases in the county in the past month. Grand Coulee had an increase of five cases, bringing the total to 23. Coulee City jumped from 16 to 38 cases. Wilson Creek has the smallest increase of all, with only three new cases added, for a total of 14 cases.

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Grant County increased from Monday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Dec. 21, from 32 deaths and six pending review, to 73 deaths with 16 pending review. Several of the deaths were related to long-term care facilities in the county, such as McKay Healthcare & Rehab Center, in Soap Lake, and Lake Ridge Center and Columbia Crest Center, in Moses Lake.

So far, the distribution of reported cases was 3,284 males to 3,124 females. Of those, newborn to 18 years old, there were 969 cases. In the 19- to 40-year-old age range, there were 2,819 cases. There were 1,782 reported cases between those 41 and 60 years old. Six hundred ninety-one cases were reported in ages 61-80 years old. Only 147 people, ages 80 years old and older were reported to have COVID-19.

In Adams County, 329 new cases of COVID-19 were reported between Monday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Dec. 21, bringing the total number of cases to 1,654. An additional three people died from COVID-19-related complications, for a total of 15 deaths.

So far, Adams County submitted 7,929 tests, with 6,042 coming back negative. As of Monday, Dec. 21, 74 tests had results pending. One thousand fifty people recovered. Of those cases, 295 were 19 years old and younger. Six hundred twenty were between 20 and 39 years old. Of those 40-59 years old, there were 485 cases. In the 60-79-year-old age group, there were 213 reported cases. Only 41 cases were in those older than 80 years old. Eight hundred fifteen were male, while 839 were female.

Between Monday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Dec. 21, the number of reported cases in Othello jumped from 1,241 to 1,547. Ritzville increased from 59 to 73 reported cases. Lind had three new cases, for a total of 12 cases. Hatton went from 11 cases to 16 cases. Benge added one new case, for a total of two. Washtucna stayed the same, with only four reported cases.

While the numbers in Adams County rose, the activity number of cases per 100,000 dropped. On Monday, Nov. 23, Adams County reported 1,576.7 cases per 100,000 residents Nov. 9-23. On Monday, Dec. 21, 1,039.5 cases per 100,000 residents between Dec. 7 and 21 were reported.
