Japan mayor defends councilwoman's ouster over assault claim

TOKYO (AP) — The mayor of a Japanese hot springs resort town on Monday denied sexual assault allegations by a former assemblywoman and defended her dismissal, saying he wanted to protect the town’s reputation.
