Tanker truck crash closes Interstate 5 in Mount Vernon

| December 9, 2020 11:15 AM

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A tanker truck struck a barrier on the Skagit River Bridge early Wednesday, leading to the shutdown of all lanes of Interstate 5.

KOMO reports the crash happened just before 5 a.m. and the tanker truck was the only vehicle involved. No one was injured.

But the impact left the truck with a broken front axle leaving it disabled. Meanwhile while the freeway had reopened in the wake of the crash, both directions were shut down again about two hours later after officials determined the bridge needed to be formally inspected for damage.
