Stocks open mostly lower on Wall Street, except for tech

| December 7, 2020 7:09 AM

NEW YORK (AP) — Major stock indexes are off to a mostly lower start on Wall Street, easing off the record highs they set on Friday, as traders worry anew that rising coronavirus cases over the winter holidays will extend the economy’s pandemic-induced slump. The S&P 500 index slipped 0.2% in the first few minutes of trading Monday, with banks and energy companies posting the biggest losses. Technology companies bucked the trend and edged higher, pushing the Nasdaq up 0.3%. Crude oil prices fell and Treasury yields were lower. European markets were broadly lower and Asian markets ended mixed.
