Scott Swartz hired as permanent Othello High School principal
OTHELLO — Interim Othello High School principal Scott Swartz has been hired as the permanent principal at OHS.
Othello School Board members approved Swartz’s hiring at the Nov. 23 board meeting.
“Scott is certainly someone who has demonstrated that he understands teachers and students. He has positive relationships with the staff and students, he believes in being visible, he listens, he’s a good communicator, a thinker and he knows Othello,” said district superintendent Chris Hurst.
Swartz replaced Alejandro Vergara, who took a job in another district.
Prior to taking the interim principal position, Swartz was one of three assistant principals at OHS for three years. Swartz has been in the Othello School District for 23 years, he said. He was a teacher at McFarland Middle School for six years before moving to the high school.
He also was an instructional coach at OHS, teaching other teachers to be more effective. He obtained his administrative credentials and moved to the assistant principal job when the instructional coach position ended.
