MOSES LAKE — A local business is sponsoring an unusual coat drive to benefit children in foster care.

Desert Graphics Inc. co-owner Dani Smith said she’s asking people to buy one of the coats she has on display in her store, 1235 E. Wheeler Road, Moses Lake, as a donation to kids in foster care. Smith will donate a coat for every coat purchased, she said.

The coat drive will be ongoing through Dec. 23.

Smith will ensure the coats are delivered to the proper agency.

She purchased the coats, and wanted to make sure they would keep the recipients warm.

“I was pretty picky about what I got,” she said.

The greatest need is for children’s sizes 0-6, she said.

Smith said she and her husband purchased Desert Graphics in September, and for her, the new business came with the responsibility to do something for the community.

“Giving back, somehow,” she said. “What can we do?”
