Hurricane Laura is rapidly intensifying and forecasters now expect it to become a Category 4 hurricane. It is expected to make landfall overnight on the Texas-Louisiana coast.
The Hurricane Center is warning that the storm surge from Laura could reach an“unsurvivable” 20 feet in parts of Texas and Louisiana. Laura has already killed nearly two dozen people on the island of Hispaniola, including 20 in Haiti and three in the Dominican Republic, where it knocked out power and caused intense flooding.
AP journalists for text, photo and video are in place in Louisiana and Texas and will move based on where Laura makes landfall.
