Authorities: Man arrested after chase

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was arrested over the weekend after reportedly ramming a Grant County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol car and leading deputies on a pursuit through Moses Lake on Saturday morning, according to law enforcement.

Deputies were called to a private residence on Eagle Drive Northeast for a report that a man, later identified as Jeremy Gilbert, 33, was asleep in his car and blocking the resident’s driveway. When deputies woke Gilbert up, he allegedly started the car and rammed a patrol vehicle several times before speeding off, leading deputies on a high-speed chase into Moses Lake city limits.

A deputy performed a PIT maneuver due to Gilbert’s reckless driving, the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement, causing Gilbert’s car to spin out and stall on Broadway Avenue near Gibby Road. Gilbert allegedly refused to exit his vehicle, prompting deputies and Moses Lake Police officers to break the driver’s side window and remove him by force.

Gilbert was treated for minor injuries at Samaritan Healthcare before being booked into the county jail. He is facing charges of attempting to elude police, felon in possession of a firearm, second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Reports did not immediately indicate that Gilbert was intoxicated or wanted for any outstanding warrants, said sheriff’s office spokesman Kyle Foreman.
