Correction: Women's Suffrage Anniversary story

| August 24, 2020 4:27 PM

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — In a story published Aug. 18, 2020, about the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, The Associated Press misquoted the leader of a women’s rights organization and also misspelled her name and erroneously reported the name of her group. Johnnetta Betsch Cole is the national chair of the National Council of Negro Women. Speaking of racism in the suffrage movement, she said “one can be victimized” in one form of oppression, and then victimize others, not “one can be virtuous” in one form of oppression, and then victimize others.
