Target shooting temporarily banned statewide

OLYMPIA — Target shooting is temporarily banned statewide on all lands managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to help prevent wildfires, the department said in a press release.

“We implemented several fire risk prevention measures of WDFW lands in Eastern Washington earlier this summer,” said Cynthia Wilkerson, lands division manager for WDFW, in a press release. “With increasing fire danger and several recent incidents of human-caused fires in southwest Washington, we want to emphasize that the target shooting ban includes Western Washington.”

The ban applies to approximately 1 million acres managed by WDFW; the ban does not restrict lawful hunting.

The restrictions will remain in effect until the risk of wildfires decreases, Wilkerson said in the press release. Any updates on restrictions can be found at wdfw.wa.gov.
