The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, August 19, 2020

_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

The heat wave will continue across much of the West

tomorrow, as the dome of high pressure will be reluctant to

move. A few showers and storms will bring a bit of relief

from the heat across the Rockies and high terrain of the

Southwest, but any lightning strikes could potentially spark

up new fires. Farther east, a disturbance sinking southward

through the mid-South will pop up showers and storms along

the Gulf coast and the Southeast, and some may creep as far

north as the mid-Atlantic states. To the north of that

disturbance, a dry and refreshing air mass will encompass a

majority of the Great Lakes and Northeast, allowing

air-conditioning units to take a break, especially at night.
