The Nation's Weather for Tuesday, August 18, 2020

_____

NATIONAL SUMMARY

A weak upper-atmospheric disturbance diving into the

mid-South tomorrow will spark a few showers and

thunderstorms across the region during the day. Widely

scattered storms will also target the Southeast as well. To

the north of this area of wet weather, comfortably mild and

largely dry conditions are expected across the Great Lakes

and much of the Northeast. The searing heat will continue

across much of the West, as the ridge of high pressure

continues to sit overhead. A slight increase in moisture

streaming into the region will spark afternoon thunderstorms

across the high terrain of the Southwest, across the Sierras

and into portions of the interior Northwest. Later in the

afternoon, additional thunderstorm activity will pop up

across the central Plains.
