FFA groups hold annual plant sales

SOUTH COUNTY — Despite the lack of normal school activities, area FFA groups are continuing with their annual plant sales. Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the plant sales are not being held as normal to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Royal and Warden held their plant sales online. Over the weekend, both groups announced that they had sold out of plants. Those who ordered will receive additional information from their FFA group with specifics on how to pay for and pick up their plants.

The Othello FFA is holding its plant sale Thursday, April 30, through Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Othello High School greenhouse. In a statement on Facebook, the chapter said that it is working “with the Adams County Health Department to create a safe environment for staff and customers.” Because of the COVID-19 crisis, no minors, including FFA members, are allowed in the greenhouse during the sale.

Despite the precautions being put in place, the Othello FFA believes that this year it has grown some of its “biggest and most beautiful plants.” The members are “extremely proud” of the plants they have this year. During the sale, they will accept cash or checks.

The Wahluke FFA is also holding its plant sale online. It starts today, Wednesday, April 29. Orders are on a first-come, first-served basis. Plants will be available for pick-up on May 7 through 9 at Wahluke High School. Plants available include lavender, hanging baskets, sugar peas, tomatillos, portulaca and petunias.
