Walter Lee Shetler

July 25, 1929 – March 9, 2020

Walter Lee Shetler was born in Cheraw, Colorado on July 25, 1929, to Milton and Ada Shetler. He died on March 9, 2020, peacefully in his sleep at the home of his youngest daughter, Kathy, in Golden Valley, Arizona. Walter was the seventh child of six brothers and four sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a granddaughter.

Walter married Betty Slatter on Dec. 18, 1949 in Filer, Idaho. They had five children: Marilyn (David McArdle), Joann Thompson, Walter Gene, Kathy (Paul Wood) and Richard (Roslyn Gilmore). Walter had 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

At the age of 30, Walter came to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He loved telling people about the Lord and discussing the Bible, singing, playing the guitar, and playing the harmonica. He loved telling stories and loved a good joke.

He and Betty were divorced in 1965, and he married Verna Clouter in 1966. They divorced in 1984. Over the years, Walter was a farmer and a cattle rancher, worked in real estate and was a welder. For a short time, he also had an antique store, a small café and a walnut farm. He loved trying new things and meeting new people. He was able to travel extensively over his lifetime and made his last trip, over 2,000 miles round-trip, at the age of 90.

Walters’s ashes will be sprinkled at Lake Roosevelt, Washington, as he loved the area and had spent many hours fishing and boating there. In remembrance of Walter, we ask that you share random acts of kindness to continue his love for helping others.
