Royal City makes changes in light of COVID-19
ROYAL CITY — Along with other cities in the area, the Royal City Council passed a resolution declaring a state of emergency due to COVID-19, during a regular, call-in meeting on Tuesday, April 7. The resolution follows a proclamation issued by Mayor Kent Andersen on March 18.
The state of emergency allows for City Hall to remain closed to the public during the COVID-19 crisis. It also allows for a temporary suspension of in-person council meetings and allows for call-in meetings. Public comment during this time is suspended but will be accepted via email and written comment. The resolution is in effect until April 28, unless otherwise extended.
The council also passed a resolution authorizing extra sick leave for employees affected by COVID-19. The resolution brings the city into compliance with federal legislation.
Royal City Finance Director Shilo Christensen told the council that he and city employees have agreed that the city should postpone the spring clean-up indefinitely until a better time can be found. The council agreed with the decision.
Public Works Director John Lasen told the council that his crew would paint the park restrooms but would not open them up. He is afraid that someone will steal the toilet paper to use at home and not leave some for people legitimately using the restrooms.
