Mattawa skate park, basketball court closed
MATTAWA — The Mattawa City Council has closed the skate park and basketball court in Mattawa. The decision was made during a regular, call-in meeting on Thursday, April 2.
The recommendation to close the skate park and basketball court came from Public Works Director Juan Ledezma, who said that school-age children were using the facilities. Mattawa Police Chief Joe Harris seconded the recommendation, saying that it is hard to maintain social distancing in those areas. Harris also said that if people jump the fence, it is no longer a disregard for the governor’s order, but a criminal offense. The council passed the recommendation unanimously.
The closures of the skate park and basketball court join other closures made by the city council due to the COVID-19 outbreak. During a previous meeting, the council decided to close the play equipment at the park.
