GRANT COUNTY — Four more Grant County residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the county’s total to 98, the Grant County Health District reported Wednesday evening.

Only two communities, the Mattawa area and Quincy area, saw increases. The Mattawa area had one new confirmed case, bringing its total to 18, while the number of confirmed cases in the Quincy area rose from 38 to 41.

Moses Lake’s number of confirmed cases held steady at 17. Ephrata’s total also held steady at 10. Royal City still reported five confirmed cases, Warden had four, Soap Lake had three, and the Grant County portion of the Othello area had one case. According to the health district, there are 25 more probable cases.

Seven people sickened with the novel coronavirus remain hospitalized and 14 had recovered enough not to be in quarantine, the health district reported. There have been 874 negative test results, and 201 tests awaited results.

A new confirmed case of COVID-19 in Othello was announced by Adams County officials Tuesday evening. That brings the total cases in Othello to 26 and 30 in the entire county. So far, seven individuals confirmed to have COVID-19 have recovered enough to come out of isolation, according to the Adams County Health Department.

In addition, nine people whose test results are outstanding are considered likely to have been infected.

In a press release Tuesday evening, Adams County Health Officer Dr. Alexander Brzezny said that tests submitted so far in Adams County come back positive 14 to 15 percent of the time. The state average is estimated to be eight to nine percent. However, health department officials have previously raised concerns about the availability of tests for county residents.

So far, 196 Adams County residents have been tested. One hundred fifteen tests have come back negative. Approximately 44 tests are pending results.
