Ordan Dewain Winder

August 15, 1936 – September 4, 2019

Dewain Winder, 83, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Samaritan Hospital. He was born on Aug. 15, 1936 to Daniel Winder and Margaret Jardine in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He moved to Moses Lake, Washington in 1953 and lived with his uncle and aunt Floyd and Maxine Winder.

Dewain met Carolyn Barnum while in high school at Moses Lake and they married on Sept. 23, 1954 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity. Carolyn continued her senior year there while Dewain worked at the U&I Sugar factory. In 1964 they moved their growing family out on the Royal Slope where they lived for the remainder of their lives. After a short few years of farming, in 1969 Dewain started working for Quincy Columbia Basin Irrigation District until his retirement in 1999. During his retirement years he enjoyed serving in the Royal Spanish Branch as missionaries with Carolyn. He may be known most for the love of driving anywhere with his dog, watching sporting events, especially of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (umpiring softball at age 80) and drinking Diet Coke without ice (warm).

Dewain is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Carolyn, his parents, one sister Dannis, and one grandchild Dustin. He is survived by his seven children Daniel (Barb) Winder of Basin City, Washington, Colleen Hampton of Pasco, Washington, Dee (Lori) Winder of Lehi, Utah, Sheri (Dennis) Smith of Royal City, Washington, Teri (William) Smith of Logandale, Nevada, Cindy (Mario) Padilla of Moses Lake, Washington and Patti (Bill) Dougherty of Pueblo West, Colorado. He has many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Shirley Blau of Logan, Utah and Ralph (Jeannine) of Lacey, Washington.

Viewing will be Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9-10:45 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 357 Christensen Road, Royal Camp, Othello, Washington. Burial and concluding services will immediately follow at Royal Memorial Gardens, Royal City, Washington.

Dewain’s family has asked Kayser’s Funeral Home of Moses Lake to care for the arrangements.
