WARDEN — Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones gave the Warden City Council a presentation on the proposed sales tax for criminal justice funding during a regular city council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

“He did a really good job with the presentation,” said Warden City Clerk Kriss Shuler.

A public hearing will be held during the next city council meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10 to receive public input as to whether the City of Warden should issue a resolution supporting the proposition.

The council also heard a presentation from OB-3 Resource Management about the industrial wastewater lagoons and the digester being operated on city property.

“They are requesting an extension of time, for one year, in case they can’t get it done,” Shuler said.

Currently, the digester is operating, but they are having some issues with canal seepage.

“It is wet,” said Shuler. “It’s hard to do reclamation of those ponds. The digester is up and running as designed. They are processing the industrial waste water as designed. The operating agreements with the industrial processors have delayed their processes.”

The council authorized the mayor to sign a contract between the city and Grant County Economic Development Council (EDC).

“We normally do it at the beginning of the year,” Shuler said. “EDC promotes businesses and industry throughout the county, including Warden. They are the lead agency for a community to apply for strategic infrastructure funds.”

The contract is an agreement that EDC and the city will work together.

A public hearing was held to allow public input on the six-month extension to the city’s cryptocurrency moratorium. After the hearing, the extension was approved. The extension will allow the city to develop permits and regulations surround the cryptocurrency industry.
