Land of the rising felonies Moses Lake man allegedly assaults girlfriend with katana

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was arrested Saturday after allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a samurai sword.

David Huerta was charged with first-degree assault, while his girlfriend, Marilou Martinez, was charged with fourth-degree assault.

Police responded to the 1000 block of Division Street for a report of a domestic violence fight. When they arrived on the scene, they found Huerta with a samurai sword held to Martinez’ neck and chest, police reports show. Huerta reportedly dropped the exotic weapon when commanded to by police.

According to witnesses, the pair had been in an argument when Martinez attempted to use a stun gun on Huerta, who was armed with the samurai sword and a handgun. In response, Huerta punched Martinez in the face and head numerous times, police allege.

Though Martinez said that Huerta had not threatened her with the gun, he was wearing ear plugs and stated it was because he believed shots would be fired. Further, he had reportedly asked a neighbor for ammunition prior to the fight. Before Martinez arrived at their shared home, Huerta was reportedly seen waiting outside with the sword and gun waiting for her to arrive.
