Othello man remains sedated at Kadlec two weeks after motorcycle crash
RICHLAND — An Othello man remains sedated at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, following a motorcycle crash more than two weeks ago.
Jaime Garza sustained critical injuries while performing a motorcycle jump in the P.R.O. Series at Horn Rapids Racing Motorsports Complex in Richland on Sunday, Oct. 6. Garza sustained major internal chest injuries, rib ruptures and lung lesions. An official Facebook page documenting Garza’s recovery process has been created, updating friends and family frequently.
As of Sunday evening, Garza was struggling with fevers.
“They are doing everything they can to keep him comfortable and safe, which unfortunately means he is back under sedation. He needs quiet and low to no stimulation. Please keep this in mind when visiting. Thank you for all of the support and love being sent his, the girls’ and the rest of the family’s way,” the post stated.
Last week, Garza was awake but still on quite a bit of sedation and pain medications to keep the pain under control.
“We have seen that sparkling smile we all love come to his face quite a few times,” Garza’s friends and family stated last week.
Garza has officially been diagnosed with a Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI) between levels two and three, a most common traumatic brain injury. A person that is diagnosed with a DAI injury can have long-term effects that require extensive rehabilitation.
“Thank you to everyone who has donated. The response and support for Jaime has been amazing. His family and I are very touched by everyone’s generosity. As of now, Jaime’s vitals have somewhat stabilized and it looks like he will make it. Unfortunately, after another MRI for his head, he’s been diagnosed with a DAI brain injury. Basically, he’s suffered a major blow to the brain and has sustained significant brain trauma. We could use all the prayers and good thoughts we can get for Jaime’s recovery. It’s going to be a long road and your continued support would be and is greatly appreciated,” Brandon Kirkendall, Garza’s friend, stated. Kirkendall created the GoFundMe.
The GoFundMe campaign has surpassed $16,000 of the $20,000 goal the family has set up. The funds raised will go toward medical bills and supporting the Garza family while Jaime recovers.
