OTHELLO — Othello police officers surprised children who are kind and friendly last week.

The officers, wearing Super K capes, brought two extra capes and visited a few classes at an Othello elementary school. Each classroom selected the kindest boy and girl in their classroom. One boy and one girl were chosen and both were declared Super K helpers.

“Use your superpower, always choose kindness,” the Othello Police Department stated last week.

“The capes represent the superpower of being kind. Othello PD Officers were introduced to students with the same superpower who were then given a cape to wear. OPD team members joined with other citizens in supporting ‘Kindness Week.’ Being kind to each other promotes better behaviors and a better community,” Othello Police Assistant Chief David Rehaume said.

Othello Mayor Shawn Logan proclaimed October 13-20 as “Kindness Week” at a regularly scheduled city council meeting earlier this month. Kindness Week is being done in remembrance of Kyle Lutey, a kind, friendly, outgoing, 10-year-old boy who passed away unexpectedly last year.
