South county roundup: Royal football routs Warden to remain unbeaten

Royal 49, Warden 0

WARDEN — Royal held Warden to 58 total yards and the Knights won in a shutout 49-0.

Lorenzo Myrick punctuated drives with touchdown runs of 1, 2 and 3 yards. Caleb Christensen threw four touchdowns to four different receivers. Aldo Farias, Derek Bergesen, Tyler Allred and Carter Dorsing had touchdown receptions.

Warden defensive back Kaden Skone intercepted a Christensen pass in the first quarter.

Next, Royal travels to Connell for its rival’s Homecoming game on Oct. 11. Warden will try to bounce back this week at College Place.

Kiona-Benton 46, Wahluke 0

MATTAWA — Wahluke’s slide extended to three games after a loss to Kiona-Benton 46-0.

The Warriors have now been shut out in three straight games. The Bears’ defense was smothering, holding the Warriors to 83 total yards.

Wahluke running back Jose Celaya was held to 36 yards. Mikey Vance had two rushing touchdowns for Ki-Be.

Wahluke travels to River View on Friday.

Volleyball

Warden 3, Columbia (Burbank) 1

WARDEN — Warden edged Columbia (Burbank) in four sets 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22.

“We did a much better job of limiting our mistakes and not letting those errors become big globs of mistakes all in a row,” head coach Dennis Treat said.

Kaya Enriquez had an all-around match of 14 kills, 10 digs and four aces. Alexys Gibbons totaled 15 assists, five aces and four digs.

Ephrata 3, Othello 0

OTHELLO — Ephrata swept Othello 25-15, 25-17, 25-13.

Hayden Mills led the Tigers with 10 kills. Paige Heston added nine kills, six digs and two aces.

Lindsay Addink orchestrated the offense with 22 assists.

MATTAWA ­— Wahluke scored twice in the second half to hold off Chelan 3-2.

The Goats conceded an own goal in the first half. Claudia Olivares and Ana Andrade scored for the Warriors.

Royal 1, Kiona-Benton 0

BENTON CITY — Lindsey Carrasco’s lone goal was the difference-maker in Royal’s 1-0 win at Kiona-Benton.

Carrasco scored in the 72nd minute of the defensive battle.

Othello 3, East Valley 2

YAKIMA — Ruby Trinidad scored in overtime on an assist from Hailee Guzman and Othello rallied to beat East Valley 3-2.

The Huskies trailed 2-1 at half. Guzman was able to score in the first half after a handball in the box awarded Othello a penalty kick.

With time ticking down, Janelly Verduzco sent a ball from the midfield to Guzman who was able to force overtime with a goal in the 79th minute.

Lane Simpson finished with nine saves to keep the Huskies within striking distance.

Warden 9, College Place 2

WARDEN — Warden had six different goal-scorers in a 9-2 rout of College Place.

Aaliyah Enriquez and Quinn Erdmann led the Cougars with three and two goals, respectively. Grace Richins, Arely Rangel, Jacque Gonzalez and Angie Ozuna scored one goal each.
