Othello —The Othello/Adams County Fire District No. 5 Firefighters Association has purchased three piercing nozzles. The funds for the nozzles came from a grant from the “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” sponsored by the Bayer Fund. Othello farmer Richard Colley directed the grant to the firefighters.

Piercing nozzles have tips made of hardened steel. The tips are used to penetrate a variety of different materials. The nozzles allow firefighters to get water into confined spaces via adjacent areas when access to those spaces is limited. They cause limited structural damage and water damage while providing firefighters with safer fire suppression options.

“We would like to thank the Bayer Fund for this generous grant,” said Marc Spohr, Secretary/Treasurer for the Othello/Adams County Fire District No. 5 Firefighters Association in a statement issued on Oct. 2. “These piercing nozzles will provide the community with enhanced firefighting technology and a safer fire suppression environment for our firefighters.”

Othello/Adams County District No. 5 Fire Department will be hosting an open house on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. The piercing nozzles and other items will be on display. The fire department is located at 220 S. Broadway Ave.
